Seventy years after Stalin's death and the popular uprising of 17 June 1953, a project is giving cause for renewed reflection on the memory of victims of Soviet persecution in the post-war period and in the early GDR: The Dresden Documentation Centre is releasing the internet portal www.verurteiltundvergessen.de/. It documents over 150 biographies of victims of persecution from Saxony on the basis of their last residential address before arrest.

The participants of the panel will deal with public remembrance from different perspectives. In addition to the academic perspective and the political-social viewpoint, this is also the very personal perspective of the family members. What goals do the participants pursue with their remembrance activities? How do they assess the state of German remembrance culture? What do they think about its future?
