Contemporary witness

Ever since it was founded, the Bautzner Strasse Dresden Memorial has been building up a contemporary witness archive. This is constantly being expanded and is available for research purposes.

The archive includes interviews with

  • Former prisoners of the Soviet secret police
  • Former detainees of the Dresden state security
  • Former inmates of the prisoner work detail of the State Security
  • Contemporary witnesses of the peaceful revolution and system transformation

The contemporary witness archive is an important basis for the work at the memorial site. Its contents flow into the permanent exhibition and the educational offers in particular. The memorial works across borders, in particular with the Czech organization's Post Bellum and the Václav Havel Library in Prague.

If you would like to enrich the contemporary witness archive with your story and your experiences, please contact us. Each story makes an important contribution to the exploration of the historical site.

We look forward to seeing you!
