The drummer from Zwitschermaschine: Rom
Content
The poet Michael Rom was a member of the legendary East German art-punk band ZWITSCHERMASCHINE, which was formed in the environment of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. He was also part of the East Berlin literary scene in Prenzlauer Berg and was murdered in a robbery in Berlin in 1991. Rome's literary estate was considered lost. For years, the band's drummer, Wolfgang Grossmann, searched for his texts and drawings. Found again by friends and in archives, he published them in a collection under the title "won't go to the big-eared elephants". Now Grossmann activated his own memories for a new record and concert and gathered musicians around Fehlfarben singer Peter Hein to give the old songs new life.
1983: In West Berlin, AGGRESSIVE ROCKPRODUKTIONEN released a split LP which attracted attention because of the imprint "DDR von unten - Schallplatte mit 2 Gruppen und Textbeilage". One of the East bands is called Vierte Wurzel aus Zwitschermaschine, which is also special in that it has three solo singers - Ralf Kerbach (painter, git), Matthias Zeidler (poet, bg), Wolfgang Grossmann (actor, dr) - who also each write their own lyrics: Cornelia Schleime (painter, poet), Michael Rom (poet), Sascha Anderson (poet). On the West record, however, one hears almost only Sascha with combo; the counted predominant remaining material of the other two is conspicuously absent.
2020/2021: Inspired by the publication of Michael Rom's book "will nicht zu den großohrigen elefanten" (Verlag Vorwerk 8, Berlin), in which Rom's lyrics (who had been murdered by the perpetrator during a robbery in 1991) can be found, the drummer of Zwitschermaschine activates his memories and gathers musicians and the Fehlfarben singer Peter Hein to revive these songs. This is how old material is reconstructed and dance music is produced that annexes punk, freestyle and expressionism with Michael Rom's undeburred poetry. That's why there is now a new record "ROM", released by Rundling-Records.
