Shared memory?
The Prague Spring in the Memory of the Czechs, Slovaks and East Germans
18:00-20:00
Panel discussion
What happened in 1968 in the ČSSR is remembered and interpreted today in the collective memory of three new countries. Where are the differences in the current image of the Prague Spring and what significance does the memory of it have in today's image of history in the three countries?
We want to emphasise the Slovak perspective in particular, because the memory of the Prague Spring usually focuses on the events in the capital. But how did 1968 unfold in the Slovak part of the country?
Historians from all three countries will debate these questions on the panel.
Moderator: Justus H. Ulbricht
