The Prague Spring in Literature
19:00-21:00

Panel discussion and reading

Literature shapes what happened, but at the same time interprets and reinterprets it. The "Prague Spring" was preceded by ideas of freedom and civic self-confidence that survived its suppression. Author Jan Faktor and literary scholar Steffen Höhne debate the preconditions and after-effects of a political event in literature.

Jan Faktor (*1951), Czech, in Berlin since 1978, writes in German and was shortlisted for the German Book Prize in 2012 and 2022. The Prague Spring brought him and his future wife together. Prof. Dr Steffen Höhne teaches at the Weimar-Jena University of Applied Sciences and is, among other things, editor of the magazine Brücken.
